Movie analysis for Hatchet 3 (Decker Shado)

Hatchet 3 was the film that was a horror in the Hatchet trilogy. It follows Victor Crowley's murderous rampage through Louisiana's Honey Island Swamp. The film stars Kane Hodder as Victor Crowley, Brian Quinn as Deputy Winslow, as well as Rileah Vanderbilt in the role of Misty.

The film's greatest strength is its use of practical special effects. Hatchet 3 is a horror movie that uses CG effects less than many other films. Hatchet 3 has a number of makeup effects that are practical and sets that result in some really horrific scenes throughout the film.

The cast is solid and the lead actor Kane Hodder proving to be an formidable villain. The dialogue is so funny and tongue-in cheek that it could be like a classic 1980s horror film. There are also some genuinely funny moments throughout, which provide a comical contrast against all of the gut-wrenching action on screen.

Unfortunately, the film's budget was restricted to just one million dollars. That means many locations in the movie are re-used from earlier films. A boat house is used twice, and the majority of it feels recycled from previous films. If you've watched Hatchet or Hatchet 2, this can sometimes make the movie feel familiar.

Overall, Hatchet 3 was a good series overall. There were many (blog post) gory moments, and there were some great performances from the cast.
